Kennel Club announces new template for the German Shepherd
I am not sure if Britney is a purebred shep. I suspect there's collie in there. But wouldn't it be special if today's show-bred German Shepherds looked and could perform like this.
Gorgeous. I'd be so proud to have a shepherd like this. Light on her feet, agile and athletic, and obviously possesses a biddable, trainable temperament!
Amazing, watching this video next to the other videos you have been linking to is staggering. This is what healthy GSDs should be capable of. To have taken these beautiful animals and breed them into the state seen at Crufts, and then to label that as 'Best of Breed' is so crazy.
I have to wonder what the Show 'fancy' really think, deep inside when they see a dog like this. Do they really think it's 'incorrect' or 'not what a GSD should be like' or do they, in the deepest recesses of their minds, feel any regret at all for what they have done? This dog is fantastic, and a dog of any breed with this athleticism is a happy healthy dog. Amen.
In my experience: If its IS a cross breed, they say its a fluke. Totaly unpredictable result that lucked out and has a good owner. If pure bred, they will say yep, maybe incorrect conformation but otherwise shows thoughtful breeding.
Yes, perhaps a touch of another breed in there. One problem I've seen when it comes to deciding just what a correct type of GSD would look like is the divergence of opinion there seems to be from those who [quite rightly] decry the ones in previous photos and videos. It's not all wonderful outside the world of the show GSD . Some of the big heavy straight backed type would also struggle to be this athletic.
Agree with that. I had a very straight back GSD girl, far too square and rather long in the body. Definitely not the most athletic dog I have ever owned, beautiful of course, and my heart and sole, but her structure certainly wasn't optimum. The difference is I could recognise that.
Ha, I think it's Jemima and Jake in a former life? Shows really what a GSD can and will do when it completely trusts it's owner. Big, bold, intelligent, agile, willing, kind, how sad that the GSD people in the Philippine video and the Crufts 16 show cannot or will not see what they are doing to their dogs. A lovely image of why we keep dogs and the joy of having them in our lives.
THIS is the picture of dog ownership and breeding we should be selling. By example. a
As a standard of both breeding and ownership to aspire to. THAT is the message that is not getting through or being promoted. The basic values in a responsible, Man-Dog partnership that any human can aspire to.
Well, with an open registry, she would be a GSD. She's a dog that embodies the qualities that made the GSD a popular breed in the first place. There should always be room for a useful dog.
I'm in love with this GSD, she appears to be a small agile and very intelligent,a very fine example of what GSD should be. They don't have to be over blown toe dragging monsters seen in the show ring.

A dog needs to be able to move, and this one certainly can. That's more than can be said for many of the victims of Crufts and other dog shows.

ReplyDeleteLOVE this little dog! Agree, there is something a bit Border Collie-ish about her. Fabulous dog no matter her heritage!
