Sled dogs don't move like that because they aren't gaiting across pasture all day, they run in feet of snow. They are would expend to much energy plowing through the snow. Belgian Malinois doesn't move or stand like a german shepherd because they are a unique breed. The two are very different. I have never been a fan of Malinois because they struggle to have an "off" switch too high intensity especially for novice owners. Try watching the video below and tell me if you see the efficiency in movement. The issue here is accountability for a dedication to breed health, from those that breed and those that set and support breed standards, and this is NOT it. I am a veterinarian, with a love for the GSD breed, one is sleeping next to me now. But this is a very VERY sad and disgusting example of breed health. This is an anatomic atrocity. For those of you saying you see "air" between the hock and the ground...wake up. Take a course in biomechanics....because in a canine....the metatarsals should also never touch the ground. That dog is a mess. It was irresponsible breeding, breeding to irresponsible set standards, and then awarded for that irresponsibility. More than one party is at fault here. And it's sad all around.SME2010https://www.blogger.com/profile/01200504818614503167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1183957703077342201.post-3366176161287055062017-01-31T14:18:33.162+00:002017-01-31T14:18:33.162+00:00Actually,Very nice dog!Actually,Very nice dog!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03259649997174443643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1183957703077342201.post-19954777884158847472017-01-31T06:05:52.781+00:002017-01-31T06:05:52.781+00:00Just like incredibly good photos of a not so great...Just like incredibly good photos of a not so great animal can be taken and made to look fabulous. Anyone, can also take some very poor photos of a quality animal making it look like a pet or worse. I would prefer seeing the dog in person. As for the black shepherd of supposed showlines. There are many backyard breeders who know that people who show their dogs, TEST their dogs and then breed them often charge more for their puppies. So, they will profess them to be showlines. Most breeders I know would be horrified to find out anything from their lines or kennel ended up in rescue. So, I would need more proof that this dog in rescue was from show breeding. The writer of this article showed no tact in disclosing this dogs name and pedigree to a public forum to use to post their opinions. I do not care if they consider themselves to be the authority on the subject. If they want to use drawings to show what they are describing fine. But you do not take photos, freeze frames or whatever without the owners permission and post them to a public forum and blast the dog, the breeder, the lines/pedigree to promote your opinions. I do not have shepherd's, but if I were this owner a certain writer would be receiving lawsuit paperwork immediately! And I have never sewed anyone before.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1183957703077342201.post-80193190115855275112017-01-29T19:49:06.220+00:002017-01-29T19:49:06.220+00:00If these GSD's were used by the police and I w...If these GSD's were used by the police and I was a criminal on the run I would only have to walk a bit quicker and this travesty of a once beautiful breed of dog would never catch me, what the hell have you breeders and useless judgers done done, you all want to be ashamed of yourselves. They issued an ultimatum telling GSD breeders to get their shit together and start breeding dogs that can actually perform the job(s) for which they were originally bred or face a 2-year BAN on showing GSDs in Great Britain! American breeders in MANY breeds are destroying STRUCTURE, with the biggest problem being judges who put these dogs up. Great Britain has even considered "renaming" American-bred (or those with American lines in their backgrounds) Shelties, because American breeders are degrading their structure so badly. Again, I go back to JUDGES who are putting these dogs up, apparently, without full understanding of the BREED STANDARDS, at its most benign, and/or simply not CARING about the breed standard in the worst-case scenarios. AKC needs to do more - whether it be more judge education or some sort of REAL accountability. I've started to see judges who withhold awards, and I say we need more who are daring enough to prove their dedication to the preservation of structure and temperament!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01569733199603339730noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1183957703077342201.post-16245887851880497612017-01-28T08:46:40.182+00:002017-01-28T08:46:40.182+00:00A lot of show breeders are not breeding to the ame...A lot of show breeders are not breeding to the american GSD standard.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10621580579179011521noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1183957703077342201.post-92113253581138277352017-01-27T14:58:09.863+00:002017-01-27T14:58:09.863+00:00I so disagree with you, as a bloodhound breeder an...I so disagree with you, as a bloodhound breeder and show enthusiast I strive for the perfect dog to show case.I pride my self on the health and structural soundness of everything I breed...you have made a generalized statement in something you know absolutely nothing about... bethhttp://cornerstonehounds.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1183957703077342201.post-54115220760487111432017-01-27T12:05:44.645+00:002017-01-27T12:05:44.645+00:00You people have no idea what you are ASSuming. Saying that there is equally as much corruption and favouritism. The problem is when a judge is a friend or has a transactional relationship with a show breeder, and that breeder has progressively breed a fault into the dog and yet that dog keeps winning, by example alone other members of the community follow suit. When we have a show as big as Cruffs and as prominent, it sends a strong message to the network of breeders. Both the breeder and the judge are at fault. Until we can take the human factor out of judging, it will always be an issue as it always comes back to money and reputation.jamie peakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13630563676935679632noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1183957703077342201.post-77005429470267401662016-08-14T15:24:18.272+01:002016-08-14T15:24:18.272+01:00Maggiemay..

You can't blame the standard, nowhere does it call for the Gsd to look anything at all like the caricature of this once magnificent breed pictured above. This is purely the fault of the breeders and judges equally , for creating the dogs in the ring and rewarding them. It's a vicious cycle myself and others have been vocal about for yrs. And if you doubt this breed actually looks this bad ..I've seen worse ..go to a show and see for yourself .
However, allowing the breed to die off? ? End dog shows all together ?? A bit like throwing the baby out with the bath water and does not offer any type of realistic solution . ( above poster , not u Maggiemay) it begins with judges , they must b held accountable. If they refuse to reward dogs such as these the breeders will stop breeding them , period . It follows with the breeders . If there are none in the ring to reward ..problem solved ! Judges who refuse to judge to the standard and prefer to play politics instead loose their judging privileges , period . The akc as well as all the European and Canadian registries must take responsibility for this and the parent clubs must stop turning a blind eye . This is an animal that is defined as plantigrade. By contrast, if you look at 'normal' dogs it is only their back feet (phalanges) that are on the ground, this is known as digitigrade. Digitigrade is how all canids have developed through millions of years of evolution. Then along comes the show circuit and we undo that development and turn the show GSD into a plantigrade animal. Other plantigrades inlcude squirrels, rabbits, hedgehogs and the one with the biggest metatarsals, the kangaroo!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04691482292335403831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1183957703077342201.post-80080362101936455302016-02-24T19:23:58.273+00:002016-02-24T19:23:58.273+00:00i think you are full of crap. the breeder is selfi...i think you are full of crap. the breeder is selfish, this dog is not normal, your bias is nothing to be proud of. there is nothing, no angle, no way of training or filming that could make my dogs look like this. that fact that you cover up for it and defend it is just repulsive.

this breeder and you are the reason i will never again purchase a purebred dog, or go to a dog show.
